How Tendring Community Energy is Building Stronger Communities

Sustainable communities are built through people, partnerships and practical action.
Renewable energy is only part of the journey.

🌱 Every Conversation Matters

Sometimes the biggest successes don’t begin with renewable energy.
They begin with listening.

Recently, a gentleman returned to our office simply to say thank you.
When he first visited us he was struggling with housing and uncertainty
about the future. Through partnership working and signposting to the right
organisations, he has now secured accommodation and wanted to let us know
that things are finally turning around.

Moments like these remind us why community energy is about far more than
solar panels.

When people no longer have to worry about where they are living,
they are in a much better position to think about reducing energy bills,
improving their homes and building a brighter future.

Why This Matters

• 🍃 Listening creates lasting change.
• 🌿 Secure homes enable sustainable living.
• ☀️ Community resilience starts with people.
• 💚 Strong communities build stronger energy futures.

🌍 Behind Every Cold Home is a Different Story

Not every cold home needs expensive insulation.
Sometimes the solution is much simpler.

During home visits we regularly discover practical issues that can make a
significant difference to comfort, wellbeing and energy costs.

Common Issues We Find

• 🌱 Heating systems being used incorrectly.
• ⚡ Unnecessary standby electricity use.
• 🍃 Missing draught proofing.
• 💨 Poor ventilation leading to mould.
• 🤝 Residents unaware of grants and available support.

Every household is unique.
By taking time to understand each family’s circumstances,
we recommend practical solutions that work for them.

Sometimes we install simple energy-saving measures during the visit.
Sometimes we help secure grant funding.
Sometimes we simply give people the confidence they need.

☀️ Community Energy Starts with Community

When people hear the phrase Community Energy,
they often think only about solar panels.

In reality, renewable energy begins long before the first panel is installed.

Our Journey Starts By…

• 🌿 Helping residents reduce energy bills.
• 🏡 Supporting local community organisations.
• 🏫 Making village halls more sustainable.
• 🤝 Building trust across our communities.
• ☀️ Creating renewable energy projects that benefit everyone.

This is the journey Tendring Community Energy is proudly taking.

🌳 Building Partnerships Across Essex

No organisation changes a community alone.

Over the last year we have worked alongside councils,
charities, education providers, health organisations and businesses
that share our ambition of building stronger communities.

Together We Are Exploring

• 🌞 Community-owned renewable energy.
• 💚 Support for vulnerable households.
• 📚 Skills development and education.
• 🙋 Volunteering opportunities.
• 🏢 Reducing energy costs for community buildings.

Every new partnership creates opportunities for future projects and wider
community benefit.

⚡ From Advice to Action

Many organisations either provide advice or develop renewable energy projects.
Tendring Community Energy does both.

Every conversation helps us understand the challenges faced by local residents.
Those conversations directly influence the renewable energy projects we develop.

Our Approach

• 🌱 Listen to residents.
• 💡 Understand local needs.
• ⚡ Design projects that solve real problems.
• 🤝 Deliver lasting community benefit.

Practical support today helps shape the sustainable infrastructure of tomorrow.

🌍 The Future is Being Built Today

Over the coming years we hope to see community-owned renewable energy become
a familiar part of everyday life across Tendring.

Our Vision Includes

• ☀️ Community buildings generating their own electricity.
• 🎓 Schools learning from live renewable energy systems.
• 🏢 Local businesses reducing energy costs.
• 💷 Community investment remaining within the district.
• 👨‍🔧 Volunteers developing valuable green skills.
• 🌿 Affordable locally generated electricity benefiting local people.

This isn’t simply about producing electricity.

It’s about creating stronger, more resilient communities for generations to come.
